Wow! What an astute observation from my 11 year old!
Now, admittedly, he is the child who thrives most on together-time. Family board games, one-on-one time, reading together, and anything else that involves spending time together ?are high on his list of priorities. But, I never expected him to really get this 'no-TV thing' and understand how it can change us for the better. At least not this quickly. He does get it, and I think the others get it as well.
If you could've peeked into my house the last two days you would have heard things like:
Luci and I have plans to go stargazing tonight. I think you and Dad should sit in the swing. Gavin can sit somewhere outside too and...well, he can text.
I'm thinking every night is a family night now!
We don't need TV!?
Not once have I heard a whine, a cry, or even the slightest plea to watch TV (unless you count the oldest member of the family...Dad!) We've filled our time with quiet reading, hands-on projects, bike riding, playing in the sprinkler, helping dad wash his boat, refinishing a piece of furniture, and a cut-throat game of Monopoly. Family conversations at the dinner table have been prolonged, with no one feeling the need to rush off from the table to turn the TV back on.
Tomorrow brings an ordinary weekday. It might be a little harder to fill the hours without cries of boredom... But for now, our No-TV experiment is going better than expected!
