Android: Google just rewarded the night owls with a huge update to Google Maps that brings a new cards-based interface as well as a slew of new features for finding places and getting information on traffic conditions.
The update is currently rolling out on the Play Store (though if you want to jump the line, Android Police has an APK mirror for users running Android 4.0 and up). The new interface ditches the Action Bar and opts for the cards-style that its desktop counterpart is currently beta testing. It also includes the side panel that's becoming standard.
In addition to the new look (which is so extensive we'll need more time to dig into all the changes), there are also a few additional features. For starters, in Navigation, you can view your entire route and see any traffic, road construction, or closures that may slow you down both on and near your route. Back in Maps proper, tap on the empty Search box to see an Explore card and a Services card, both of which help you find new places in your area.
The roll out is happening on the Play Store right now. If you don't see it immediately and don't want to try out the APK, just wait a bit.
