Why did he do it?
At least one person is confessing why he generated a random but widely circulated rumor that Jon Bon Jovi had been found not breathing in a New Jersey hotel and died from cardiac arrest.
[Note to fans: Bon Jovi is still very much alive, judging from his tanned and grinning apperance in St. Barts earlier this week.]
But the truth was different according to Jeffrey Goho, a musician in Pennsylvania, who started the death hoax in mid-December. He cops to having started the rumor on a fake Twitter account, saying he was irritated at the "Wanted Dead Or Alive" singer's seeming success for reasons other than his musicianship.
"I just kind of took the liberty and started (the rumor), because I was so irritated... All I heard was 'Bon Jovi this,' 'Bon Jovi's starting a restaurant'... It was like, 'Jeez, (Bon Jovi) was a household name due to the music, not the business," Goho told the Asbury Park Press.
Goho also says the he received instant hate mail and accusations of promoting his own band via his fake Twitter account.
The internet and "Slippery When Wet" fans could only be hysterical for a short while. Bon Jovi fought off the bizarre rumors by posting a picture on his Facebook account of himself holding a sign, dated December 19, 2011, with the message: "Heaven looks a lot like New Jersey."
As Bon Jovi might say, "It's my life -- and it's not over."
